Future Things: What God Wants Us To Know
About Armageddon

INTRO-
Super
Bowl XX: This much-anticipated event was over before it began and is a
real-life illustration of total dominance.
What does this have to do with Revelation
19:19-21?
Why does the Bible include so many prophecies
about “future things?” (AKA- eschatology)
How do some so-called “bible teachers”
exploit people’s fears in relation to apocalyptic events like Armageddon? (survival kits, etc).
What
God Wants Us To Know About Armageddon (click to listen to sermon)
1) It coincides with
the 2nd Coming of Jesus Christ!
(Revelation 19:11-16;
Matthew 24:27-30; Zechariah 12-14; Luke 12:37-40)-
2)
It’s the Final Conflict between Good and Evil (the light and the darkness, Christ and the Antichrist, the people of God and the big bad world)!
(Zech.
14; Revelation 16:13-16; 19:19-21)
i) Satan (the Dragon)
ii) the Antichrist (the Beast)
iii) the false prophet
3) It’s Wonderfully Anti-Climatic; (for believers that is)!
(Revelation
19:17-21)
By the word of His power-
A)
(And God said, Gen. 1-2; Psalm 33:9; 148:5;
Col. 1:16).
By the word of His power-
B)
(Heb. 1:3; Col. 1:17)
And by the word of His power-
C)
(Rev. 19:11-21; 2 Thess. 1:5-10)

Further Reflection/Application: We must be doers
of the Word and not merely hearers
What parallels were made between Super Bowl
XX and the future historical battle of Armageddon in Revelation 19:17-21?
Ask a few non-Christian (unsaved) friends or
family members this week what comes to their mind when they hear someone
mention “Armageddon.” Ask them if they’d
be willing to consider what God has to
say about this future event. Take
them to the Word of God and try and help them to understand what the spiritual
and practical significance of the forthcoming “Day of Judgment” is for the
unbelieving world. Then take them to the Savior’s cross and help them to
understand why you don’t fear the future (Rev. 19-22)!
Many non-Christians today would admit they
are not “followers of Jesus Christ” (true disciples) but often believe they are
spiritual neutral (like Switzerland).
How does Rev. 19:19-21 and Luke 11:23 expose this faulty perspective?
We teach our children many songs that assume
they are truly “born again” (John 3)-
such as, “I’m in the Lord’s Army… Yes- Sir!”
Spend some time this week with your family talking about the practical
implications of Luke 9:23f; 2 Cor. 13:5; and John 14:15, 23.
When it comes to biblical discipleship
you’re either “all in or all out!” (see Luke 9). Are you a true follower of Christ? (Matthew 8:18-22)
In what ways is the future war to end all
wars (Armageddon) “wonderfully anti-climatic?”
How should Revelation 19:11-21 encourage the Church of God (true
believers)?
What did the preacher mean when he said the devil is “king of fools?” In what ways is unbelieving humanity foolish today? (study Romans 1:18-32; Psalm 14:1).
