The Return of the King (Rev. 19:11-16) (pt 2)
When
will this take place?
Where
will these events initially take place?
Who
are the major players of this climatic final battle?
Why
is King Jesus coming again?
Ask a friend/classmate/co-worker/neighbor
this week if they can answer these 4 questions.
Try and help someone understand the
practical and spiritual significance of this sure promise (see also 1 Thess.
5:1-3; Rev. 16:15; Psalm 73:18-19; Acts 17:31).

Further Reflection/Application:
What parallels do we find between the
fictional tale of Robin Hood and the true saga of redemptive-history? (The wicked usurper Prince John- Satan; 2
Cor. 4:4) (the Return of the King,
Richard the Lion Heart- Jesus the Messiah; Rev. 19:11-20:6).
The final installment of the Bible
(Revelation) answers four crucial questions related to the long-awaited RETURN
OF THE KING: When will
this take place? Where will these events
initially take place? Who are the major players of this
climatic final battle? Why does King Jesus return to
earth? Ask someone this week if they
can answer these 4 questions. If they
can’t, share with them what you’ve been learning in this study of Revelation
19.
Using only the Old Testament Promises,
Covenants, and Prophecies, why must there be a future, earthly reign of
Christ? Hint: Go back and listen to our
sermons on the O. T. Covenants; (for more help listen again to Mary’s Song and
Zacharias’ Benedictus in Luke 1).
Revelation often uses symbolic images to
express and explain true realities.
Provide two or three examples of this in Revelation 19. Extra Credit: How do we know when to
interpret something symbolically or literally when studying the inspired Text?
The great preachers of old reminded the lost
that our sin makes us heavy as lead. If
God should withdraw His merciful hand, unbelievers would fall instantaneously
into a bottomless abyss.
Spend some time this week in 2 Peter 3. How should God’s patience impact our worship?
Our witness? And our (patient) interaction with fellow sinners?
Compare Matthew 21:1-11 with Revelation
19:11-16
Scripture reminds us that King Jesus (the Ultimate
Avenger) shall bring sudden, unexpected, and swift judgment upon the world
(note Psalm 73:18-19; Rev. 16:15; 1
Thess. 5:1-3). Practically how
should this truth to impact our walk, our witness, and our worship?
List some of the reasons why the promise of
Christ’s 2nd Coming in Revelation 19-20 should bring us Joy? Peace? and Rest?
We like John the Baptist must lovingly warn
unbelievers of the prophesied (and Divinely guaranteed) wrath to come. See Matthew 3:1-12. Acts 17:31. Isaiah 11:4.
Have we forgotten what the pure,
unadulterated gospel sounds like? (note Gal. 1; Rom. 1-5).
Is employing “bait and switch” an
appropriate approach to evangelism and ministry?
Are our earthly reputations more important to
us then the eternal well being of the lost?
If you prefer a subtler approach to evangelism, give someone a copy of
this week’s sermon and tell them you want to hear their honest opinion over coffee.
“Hell
hath no fury like a Savior scorned!” Note Revelation 19:11-21. Isaiah 64:1-4. This is why GOOD Friday is so
sacred and special to us! On Calvary Cross, Christ endured the full cup of
God’s Wrath! That is what believers mean
when they say- “CHRIST OUR PROPITIATION!”
Join us on Good Friday as we celebrate the death of death in the death
of Christ! Our special communion service
will begin at 6:30pm (3/30/18).
Also
consider inviting your unsaved friends to our Easter/Resurrection service this
coming Sunday (4/1/18). We will enjoy
some fellowship time and a continental breakfast at 9am and will worship our
Risen King together at 10:15.
